A 300 Year Old Product Still Exciting
Yesterday, I posted this video on my Facebook page. I was surprised at the impact it had on people. Sure, it’s a neat concept and well executed but that’s not what got people so excited – it was the music.
The music in this video is a piece written by J.S. Bach in 1716. Yes, that’s right almost 300 years have passed since the piece was first written. Can you imagine if you created a product that people still enjoyed 300 years later?
I’m of the belief that if you create something of great importance and value people will find you. So, as a marketer and a consumer I want you to create great work. I want you to create important work. Something that will last a lifetime or two. Heck, Bach didn’t have anywhere near the advantages that we do. But, he believed in what he was doing.
The other thing I have learned from this, even though I already understood it, was that music is vital to the enjoyment and innovation of a commercial advertisement. If this commercial used a different piece of music your reaction would be entirely different. Also, without this music the team who produced the video would not have created such an innovative design.
