Movie Experience Improved
Last night I had the chance to see many fantastic films at the London Short Film Showcase. It’s great to see that London can produce high quality films in a city which the arts are mostly underground.
Anyways, the point of this post is to round up my experience at the showcase.
After watching all the films I had a chance to reflect last night after the gala and awards. Although my pick for people’s choice didn’t win I found after talking with the filmmakers and actors that it was highly liked. As a fan of film I did feel that in the film I chose the story wasn’t quite up to snuff. However, I think the reason the film was so highly liked was because of the strong music score.
A good music composition can change a movie from bad to good. It can also do the exact opposite. Movie makers be conscious of this as it will make the difference between winning and losing. This isn’t however an excuse to produce poor quality stories.
My message to filmmakers, producers and ad agencies is to make sure the music is right. Ask your audience how the sound affects them. And don’t settle for anything less then the right mood for your vision. After all a composer works for you and the integrity of your work.
